General Information

The Lionel No. 156 Station Platform was introduced in 1939 and was cataloged through 1942. The station platform was also carried over to the postwar period from 1946 -1949. The No. 156 Station Platform has a bright green rectangular Bakelite base, three die-cast roof support posts, bright red Bakelite peaked roof and two finials located above the outer support posts. The No. 156 Station Platform is illuminated with two light sockets located under the ends of the peaked roof. The station platform has two sections of black plastic picket fence that connect to the support posts at the base. Each fence section has two lithographed, two-sided metal advertising signs that attach to the fence. There are many different signs as shown in the photographs below. The base of the station platform measures 12-inches long by 3 1/4-inches wide and is 5 1/8-inches tall.

The only variation of the No. 156 Station Platform, not including the use of different advertising signs, is that the aluminum painted support posts of the station platform were painted gray in 1942. The gray station platforms often have black finials. The postwar version of the No. 156 Station Platform is identical to the prewar station platform with aluminum painted support posts.

There are at least ten different signs that were used with the No. 156 Station Platforms. These include Baby Ruth Candy, Rival Dog Food, Sunoco Gas (white background), Sunoco Gas (dark blue background), Remington Typewriters, Lionel Chem Lab, Fleers Bubble Gum (yellow/black), Fleers Bubble Gum (light blue/red), Fleers Bubble Gum (red/white/blue) and Lionel Construction Sets. The Lionel Construction Sets is the only sign that had a different advertisement on each side.

Included with the No. 156 Station Platform was Parts Envelope No. 156-23-7.OX containing one Extra Fence Part No. 156-5. The extra fence section that could be used to span two adjacent station platforms.
