Lionel No. 714 Box Car
General Information
The Lionel No. 714 Pennsylvania Box Car was introduced in 1940 and was issued through 1942. The No. 714 Box Cars were based on the PRR X29 class. The No. 714 Box Cars measure 10 1/2-inches in length. The box cars were made of a phenolic resin with molded details for the ladders and ribbed sides. The body, roof and underside were all painted Tuscan brown. The cars had sliding doors that matched the color of the car body. The doors opened and were held closed by a black metal latch. The doors were held in place by black metal door guides. The car number, “Pennsylvania”, PRR Herald, and capacity data were heat stamped on the sides of the car in white. The cars have Bettendorf scale trucks, scale couplers, and wheels. These cars were made for use on Lionel T-Rail track.
Lionel also offered the 714 Box Car in kit form. The kit box car was designated as 714K. When assembled and painted, the only difference between the No. 714 Box Car and the No. 714K Box Car is that the No. 714K Box Car had decals instead of heat stamped lettering on the sides.
