General Information
The No. 1690 Pullman and No. 1691 Observation Passenger Cars were initially offered by Lionel in the 1931 and 1932 Ives Catalogs. When initially introduced in 1931, the cars were marked as “Ives R.R. Lines”. In 1933, the markings were changed to “Lionel Lines”. The Lionel version of the passenger cars were available from 1933 through 1942. The No. 1690, 1691 Passenger Cars always had latch couplers. The No. 1690, 1691 Passenger Cars measure 7 1/2-inches in length. The passenger cars have lithographed sides and ends with a painted roof and frame. The frame was painted a color similar to the color of the litho body. These passenger cars were not illuminated.
Variations of the No. 1690, 1691 Passenger Cars include changes to the lithography design and color; changes to the roof, frame and floor pan (often referred to as a “fish belly”) color; with or without floor pans; open and closed clerestory windows; brass or nickel handrails; brass or nickel observation railing; and copper, nickel or black journals.
