Lionel No. 3261 Electric Locomotives

Lionel No. 3260 Electric Locomotives

General Information

The No. 3260 Ives Electric Locomotive was offered by Lionel in 1929 and 1930. However, it appeared only in the 1929 Ives Catalog. It was included a component of an uncataloged set in 1930. The No. 3260 0-4-0 Locomotive utilized the body of the Lionel No. 248 Electric Locomotive with the handrails removed. The loco frame, motor and trim were comprised of Ives parts. The diecast frame is subject to breakage and deterioration. Finding the loco with an intact frame is a challenge.

The No. 3260 Electric Locomotive measures 9-inches in length. The locomotive has a single brass strap headlight located at the front of the roof. The No. 3260 Locomotive has no manual reverse and runs in one direction only. The “Ives” and “3260” designation was rubber stamped on a painted ventilator insert. The locomotive also has four “Made in the Ives Shops” brass plates mounted on the frame, brass trim, and Ives brass journals. The loco has two manual Ives couplers.

Variations of the No. 3260 Electric Locomotives include the color of the body, roof, frame and ventilator insert. Early versions of the locomotive have a decorative brass bell on the roof. Later versions have a decorative brass pantograph.
