General Information

The No. 1678 Cattle Car was offered by Lionel in the 1931 and 1932 Ives Catalogs. Unlike the other freight cars in this series, the No. 1678 Cattle Car, although listed in the 1933 Lionel Catalog, was never produced with Lionel markings. The No. 1678 Cattle Car always had manual couplers. The No. 1678 Cattle Cars measure 7 1/2-inches in length. The cattle cars have lithographed sides and ends with a painted roof. The frame is black. The cars have sliding doors that open. The door guides match the color of the doors. The doors have a brass door knob.

The only variation of the No. 1678 Cattle Cars are copper or nickel journals.

Lionel No. 1708 Cattle Car

General Information

The Ives No. 1708 Cattle Car was offered by Lionel in the 1932 Ives Catalog only. The No. 1708 Cattle Car was also offered in a promotional uncataloged set in 1934-35. Unlike the other freight cars in this series, the No. 1708 Cattle Car was never produced with Lionel markings. The No. 1708 Cattle Car has latch couplers and measures 9 1/2-inches in length. The cattle car has lithographed sides and ends with a painted roof. The frame is black. The car has brass ladders, brass door knobs and copper journals. The car has sliding doors that open. The door guides match the color of the doors.
