Lionel No. 1677 Gondolas
General Information
The No. 1677 Gondola was initially offered by Lionel in the 1931 and 1932 Ives Catalogs. When initially introduced in 1931, the cars were marked as “Ives R.R. Lines”. In 1933, the markings were changed to “Lionel R.R. Lines” and then “Lionel”. The Lionel version of the gondola was available from 1933 through 1942. The No. 1677 Gondolas always had manual couplers. The No. 1677 Gondolas measure 7 1/2-inches in length. The gondolas have lithographed sides and ends. The frame was always black. From 1936 through 1938, the No. 1677 Gondola was also included in an uncataloged promotional set. These cars were issued without journals and were designated as No. 1677X. The cars carried the same number “1677”, but the boxes were marked “1677X”.
Variations of the No. 1677 Gondolas include changes to the lithography design, body color and copper, nickel, black or no journals. Early gondolas have latch couplers. Later gondolas have late style manual box couplers. These gondolas are noted for numerous minor variations, particularly in coupler and truck type. The variations presented below are representative of the significant variations.

Lionel No. 2677 Gondolas
General Information
The Lionel No. 2677 Gondolas were introduced in 1938 and were issued through 1942. The No. 2677 Gondolas always had operating couplers. The No. 2677 Gondolas measure 7 1/2-inches in length. The gondolas have dark red lithographed sides and ends. The frame was always black.
Variations of the No. 2677 Gondolas are limited to the type of coupler. Early gondolas have early style operating box couplers. Later gondolas have late style operating box couplers.
