No. 34 PASSENGER OUTFIT 1923

This Lionel standard gauge No. 34 passenger outfit was produced in 1923. The outfit contents include a No. 33 locomotive, a No. 35 Pullman and a No. 36 Observation all painted olive green and have gold rubber stamped lettering and numbers. The locomotive and cars have combination hook/latch couplers. The locomotive has manual reverse, a terminal post for car lighting even though the cars have pickup rollers for interior lights and it is missing one strap headlight. The cars are rubber stamped THE LIONEL CORPORATION on the bottoms. The box should have cardboard dividers to separate the pieces of the outfit but they have been lost over time.

No. 34(b) PASSENGER OUTFIT circa 1923

Lionel Standard Gauge Set 34(b) circa 1920 – 1923. This version has a black 33 electric engine, 35 olive Pullman, extra 35 olive Pullman, and 36 olive Observation. Engine has a hand reverse, nickel bell, strap headlight, gold vents, and lettered “NEW YORK CENTRAL LINES”. Pullman and Observation cars are lettered “NEW YORK CENTRAL LINES” above the windows and “PULLMAN” or “OBSERVATION” below the windows. The ends of the cars have the car number along with the wording “Lionel Lines N.Y. Made in the USA”

No. 342E PASSENGER OUTFIT

This prewar Lionel standard gauge No. 342E passenger outfit was produced from 1927 to 1929. The outfit contents include a pea green No. 318E locomotive, a No. 309 Pullman car, a No. 310 baggage car and a No. 312 observation car. The cars are pea green with orange window inserts, name plates and doors and are stamped “THE LIONEL LINES”. A slightly rarer variation has red window inserts, name panels and doors.

No. 342E BABY STATE PASSENGER OUTFIT

No. 342E Baby State Outfit with boxes produced from 1930-1931. Includes 318E locomotive, 309 Pullman, 310 baggage car, and 312 observation car.  Cars all have copper journals. Loco has cast headlights.

No. 350 PASSENGER OUTFIT 1925-26

Lionel prewar standard gauge no. 350 outfit produced in 1925-1926 with No. 8 loco with maroon 35, 35(extra) and 36 passenger cars.

No. 350 PASSENGER OUTFIT 1926

This prewar Lionel standard gauge No. 350 passenger outfit was produced in 1926. The outfit contents include a maroon No. 8 locomotive, a No. 35 Pullman car and a No. 36 observation car. This was the first year for the long wheelbase No. 8 locomotive and it came with combination couplers. The cars are olive green with the new 500 series trucks.

No. 351 FREIGHT OUTFIT

Prewar Lionel standard gauge no. 351 freight outfit produced in 1925. The outfit contents include a maroon No. 8 locomotive, a No. 114 orange box car, a No. 112 gray Lake Shore gondola and a No. 117 dark red caboose. This outfit can be dated to 1925 since the No. 8 locomotive has the short wheelbase. The 1926 and later No. 8’s had the long wheelbase. The locomotive likely has replaced headlights.

No. 352 PASSENGER OUTFIT
1925

Lionel Standard Gauge Outfit No. 352, 352 – 10 electric locomotive, two 337Pullman passenger cars, 338 Observation car. This outfit dates to 1925 which is the first year the outfit was offered. The outfit is Mojave in color. The engine had strap headlights and nickel trim. The passenger cars had maroon trim and were stamped with “New York Central Lines”. The outfit was offered from 1925 to 1928. Later outfits were offered in grey and peacock colors.

No. 352E PASSENGER OUTFIT 1926-27

This Lionel standard gauge No. 352E freight outfit was produced from 1926-27. The outfit contents include a No. 10E locomotive, No. 332 Baggage car, No. 339 Pullman and No. 341 Observation. The locomotive has a pendulum reverse unit which is designated by the “E” in 10E and the red lettering on the number plates. The locomotive and cars are painted gray and the cars have maroon window sills, doors, number plates, nickel journals and paper oil labels on the bottoms. The locomotive has brass windows, doors, number plates and combination hook/latch couplers. The cars have latch couplers.

No. 352(b) PASSENGER OUTFIT

Prewar Lionel standard gauge No. 352(b) passenger outfit produced in 1928 with No. 10 electric loco with hand reverse black frame, & cast headlights, 339 Pullman, 332 Baggage Car, and 341 Observation Car all with orange inserts.

No. 358(b) FREIGHT OUTFIT

No. 358(b) is a freight outfit produced from 1931-1934. It included 400E black locomotive with copper trim and boiler bands, 400T tender, 212 maroon gondola, 219 derrick car was peacock with a dark green roof, 220 terra cotta floodlight car, and 217 red and green caboose. The triangular piece under the ladder on the tender was added beginning around the 1933 time frame. This piece of metal was added to provide strength in that area.

No. 360 PASSENGER OUTFIT 1931

This Lionel standard gauge No. 360 passenger outfit was produced in 1931. The outfit contents include a red No. 8 locomotive, a No. 332 red mail car, a No. 337 red pullman and a No. 338 red observation. The locomotive has brass windows, number plates, vents and a manual reverse unit which is designated by the black lettering on the number plates. The cars have cream window inserts, doors and name plates, nickel journals and paper oil labels on the bottom.

No. 362 PASSENGER OUTFIT VERSION 1 (early)

Lionel Prewar Standard Gauge Outfit No. 362 with 384E Loco with green windows, 384T, 309 and 312 Passenger Cars. Very tough set to find. Outfit no. 362 is noteworthy because it came with non-matching lettering on the passenger cars. The 309 has New York Central Lines and nickel journals and wood grain doors while the 312 has Lionel Lines with cream doors and cooper journals. Both passenger car boxes have the correct “IVORY WINE” stamping. This particular set dates to 1931.

No. 362 PASSENGER OUTFIT VERSION 2 (late)

Outfit no. 362 produced in 1932-1933 with 384E Steam Locomotive and 384T tender and 309 Baby State Pullman, and 312 Baby State Observation. Engine has warped frame which is typical on this engine.

No. 364E STEPHEN GIRARD TWO TONE GREEN PASSENGER OUTFIT

Lionel prewar standard gauge Stephen Girard two-tone green passenger outfit no. 364E made from 1931-1933 in individual OBs containing; 9E electric 0-4-0 loco, 424 Liberty Bell Pullman, 425 Stephen Girard Pullman and a 426 Coral Isle observation. The cars have cream inserts and brass journals. The loco OB is dated 1931. All car boxes have matching tape and are dated 1933. Correct boxes for brass journals with Apple on the flap of the box.

No. 378W noted as “The Pennsylvania Limited”

Outfit No. 378W noted as “The Pennsylvania Limited” was made from 1935-1939 and consisted of the 392E locomotive in gun metal grey along with the 392W tender, the 424 Pullman Car, the 425 Pullman Car, and 425 Observation Car. The passenger cars have brass trim, with brass journals and are two tone Steven Gerard green.

No. 396E(a) BLUE COMET PASSENGER OUTFIT

Lionel prewar standard gauge Blue Comet passenger outfit no. 396E(a), made in 1930 in individual OBs and damaged set box. The set contains the following: 390E steam loco with two flags, cream striping, brass and copper trim, 390T tender with cream striping, brass trim and nickel journals, 420 Faye Pullman, 421 Westphal Pullman, a 422 Temple observation.

No. 396(b) BLUE COMET PASSENGER OUTFIT

Lionel prewar standard gauge Blue Comet passenger outfit no. 396E(b), circa 1931-32 in individual OBs containing; 400E steam loco with white number boards with red lettering, original white flags, red spoked wheels, copper and brass trim and no chugger, 400T tender with copper and brass trim, black lettered brass plates and brass journals, 420 Faye Pullman, 421 Westphal Pullman, a 422 Temple observation. The cars have cream windows, brass trim, plates and journals. The interiors on the cars are original and complete.! The 400E loco box also contains the original liner. The Blue Comet was originally a passenger train running between New York City and Atlantic City, NJ, from 1929 to 1941 by the Central Railroad of New Jersey. The trip took about three hours with the capability of reaching 100 mph.

No. 408(a) MOJAVE PASSENGER OUTFIT

Lionel Prewar Standard Gauge outfit no. 408E(a) produced in 1927 and 1928 in Mojave with center cab electric locomotive with 418 Parlor car, 419 Baggage Parlor car, 431 dining car, 490 observation, passenger /cars.

No. 409E APPLE GREEN PASSENGER OUTFIT

Lionel prewar standard gauge apple green passenger outfit no. 409E, circa 1929 including: 408E electric loco with red lettered brass plates, 419 baggage/Parlor car, 418 Pullman, 431 dining car and a 490 observation. The cars have red inserts, maroon doors and nickel journals.

No. 409E TWO TONE GREEN STATE PASSENGER OUTFIT

Lionel prewar standard gauge two-tone green State passenger outfit no. 409E produced from 1930-1934. The set called THE OLYMPIAN contains the following; 381E electric loco with red lettered brass plates, brass trim and apple green sub frame, 412 California Pullman, 413 Colorado Pullman and a 416 New York observation car. The cars have apple green insets, brass trim and die-cast journals.

No. 410 E FREIGHT OUTFIT

No. 410 E freight outfit was produced from 1929-1930. This set was called the “De-Luxe Freighter”. It included the 408E apple green locomotive (box missing), 211 black flat car, 212 maroon gondola, 213 terra cotta with pea green roof cattle car, 214 yellow body with brown roof box car, 215 pea green tanker car, 216 dark green oil car, and 217 red body with peacock roof caboose. Note this is a matched set with all cars having nickel journals.

No. 420 PASSENGER OUTFIT 1915-16

Lionel standard gauge No. 420 passenger outfit was produced from 1915-16. The outfit contents include a black, single motor No. 42 locomotive, No. 18 Pullman car, No. 19 Pullman/Baggage car and No. 190 Observation and all are marked LIONEL MANUFACTURING CO. The cars are painted dark olive green with maroon doors and window sills and are embossed LIONEL MFG CO NY on the bottoms. The locomotive and cars have gold rubber stamped lettering and numbers. The Observation has a long platform and unfortunately is the only car in this outfit that has an original box.  The locomotive and cars have hook couplers. The locomotive has manual reverse, a terminal post for interior car lighting and is missing a pedestal headlight.

No. 420 PASSENGER OUTFIT 1921-23

Lionel standard gauge No. 420 passenger outfit was produced from 1921-23. The outfit contents include a gray, double motor No. 42 locomotive, No. 18 Pullman car, No. 19 Pullman/Baggage car and No. 190 Observation. The locomotive and cars have gold rubber stamped lettering and numbers. The cars are painted dark olive green with maroon doors and window sills and are rubber stamped THE LIONEL CORPORATION on the bottoms. The Pullman/Baggage car has a lithographed wood grain door which is carry over from earlier production. The cars have combination hook/latch couplers. The locomotive has manual reverse, hook couplers, a terminal post for car lighting even though the cars have pickup rollers for interior lights and is missing one headlight. The locomotive is a rare factory overpaint. The inside of the locomotive shows the original olive green (see photo below) which was overpainted and re-lettered by the Lionel factory. This was done occasionally when a locomotive was sent back to Lionel for service.
