Lionel 253E Macy Set
Lionel Macy Special Set with No. 253 Loco
This Lionel Macy Special Set was offered exclusively through the R.H. Macy Department Stores. It was initially offered in 1929, but was likely available during subsequent years from remaining stock. The set is headed by the No. 253 Electric Locomotive in red. The locomotive had a red body, black frame, ivory insert, cast headlights, brass trim, and disc drive wheels. This locomotive had a manual reverse. In addition to the No. 253 Electric Locomotive, the set included three No. 607 Pullman cars and a No. 608 Observation car. The cars were painted red to match the locomotive and had ivory painted windows, doors, and name and number plates. The cars were stamped “The Lionel Lines” above the windows. The passenger cars were illuminated. The Observation car had a unique oval sticker affixed to the rear of the brass observation platform. The sticker was white and had “Macy Special” and a star in red printing.

Lionel Macy Special Set with No. 450 Loco
This Lionel Macy Special Set was offered exclusively through the R.H. Macy Department Stores. The set was initially offered in 1931, but was likely available during subsequent years from remaining stock. The set is headed by the No. 450 Electric Locomotive in red. The locomotive had a red body, black frame, brass insert, cast headlights, brass trim, and disc drive wheels. The locomotive had “Macy Special” and “450” brass plates on the sides of the locomotive instead of the typical “Lionel” and “253” plates. The locomotive also had a unique brush plate that was stamped “R.H. Macy & Co.” instead of the normal “The Lionel Corporation, NY”. This locomotive had a manual reverse. In addition to the No. 450 Electric Locomotive, the set included two No. 610 Pullman cars and a No. 612 Observation car. The cars were painted red to match the locomotive and had ivory painted windows, doors, and name and number plates. The cars were stamped “Macy Special” above the windows instead of the usual “The Lionel Lines”. The passenger cars were illuminated. This set was unique in that “Lionel” did not appear anywhere on the locomotive or passenger cars. This was unusual for a Lionel product and was likely the result of a specific request by Macy’s.

Lionel Macy Special Set with No. 253E Loco
This Lionel Macy Special Set was offered exclusively through the R.H. Macy Department Stores. It is likely that the set was offered in 1932. The set is headed by the No. 253E Electric Locomotive in red. This set was essentially the same as the Macy Special set that was headed by the Lionel No. 450 Electric Locomotive in red. The set was likely offered as a follow-up to the No. 450 Set because the No. 253E Electric Locomotive had an automatic reverse unit. The locomotive had a red body, black frame, ivory insert, cast headlights, brass trim, and disc drive wheels. The locomotive had the typical “Lionel” and “253E” brass plates on the sides of locomotive. The locomotive also had the normal brush plate that was stamped “The Lionel Corporation, NY”. This locomotive had an automatic pendulum reverse unit. In addition to the No. 253E Electric Locomotive, the set included two No.
