General Information
The Lionel No. 150 0-4-0 Electric Locomotive was introduced in 1917 and was issued through 1925. The No. 150 Electric Locomotive was based on the New York Central S electric locomotives. The No. 150 Electric Locomotive replaced the No. 700 Electric Locomotive. The No. 150 was the smallest of the electric locomotives issued by Lionel as part of the 150 Series of electric locomotives. This locomotive was included as a component of many small, low end, early prewar passenger and freight sets.
The No. 150 Electric Locomotive measures 5-inches in length. The locomotives have a single headlight, decorative bell, spoked wheels, and hook and slot couplers. The No. 150 locomotive had no manual reverse and ran in one direction only. The “150” and “New York Central” herald were rubber stamped in gold on the sides of the locomotive cab. These stampings were weak and are often partially or completely missing from handling and wear.
Variations of the No. 150 Electric Locomotives consist primarily of changes to the body color and window trim. The earliest locomotives had a pedestal headlight, Y-shape stanchions with wire handrails, and a “Lionel Manufacturing” pickup label. Later locomotives all had strap headlights, gold painted embossed handrails, and a “Lionel Corporation” pickup label.
