Lionel No. 204 Steam Locomotives
Lionel No. 204 Steam Locomotives
General Information
The Lionel No. 204 2-4-2 Steam Locomotive was introduced in 1940 and was issued through 1941. The No. 204 Locomotive was only included as a component of a large number of uncataloged passenger and freight sets during this period. The No. 204 Steam Locomotive utilized a one piece diecast body and, along with the No. 1684, was the smallest of the diecast steam locomotives issued by Lionel in the prewar period.
The No. 204 Locomotive has nickel trim, wire handrails and an “O” Gauge motor. The locomotive has an operating headlight and a remotely operated reverse with a lever on the top of the boiler that engages or disengages the reversing unit. The number “204” is rubber-stamped below the cab windows.
The No. 204 Steam Locomotive was paired with a No. 1689T/W or No. 2689T/W Tender. The No. 1689T/W and the No. 2689T/W Tenders have a square sheet metal body with an early or late style manual or operating box coupler. The tenders have either aluminum “Lionel Lines” plates (gray tenders) or “Lionel Lines” rubber stamped on the sides (black tenders) and no other trim. The No. 204 / 2689T/W Steam engine and tender combined measure 16-inches in total length.
