Lionel No. 901 Gondola Cars
General Information
The Lionel No. 901 Gondola Cars were introduced in 1919 and were issued through 1927. The No. 901 Gondola Cars have a four-wheel frame. The No. 901 Gondola Cars measure 5 3/4-inches in length. The gondola car bodies were always painted a single color and had a black frame. With a single exception, all of the gondola cars have “Lake Shore” rubber stamped on the sides. All of the cars have “Made in U.S.A. / The Lionel Corporation / New York” rubber stamped on the underside. The cars have no trim and no journals. All of the cars have tongue and slot couplers.
Variations of the No. 901 Gondola Cars include different body color; variations in stampings of the number and other information, and different color lettering for the stamping. One variation of the car is rubber stamped “Pennsylvania” on the sides.
