Lionel No. 802 Cattle Cars

General Information

The Lionel No. 802 Cattle Cars were introduced in 1915 and were issued through 1926. The No. 802 Cattle Cars have a four-wheel frame with tongue and slot couplers. The No. 802 Cattle Cars measure 5 3/4-inches in length. The cattle car bodies were all painted a single color and the frame was always black. The cars had sliding doors that opened and have a handle that was stamped into the right side of the door. The door guides were inside the car. The doors were all rubber stamped “Union Stock Lines”. The car number and other information was rubber stamped on the end and underside of the car. All of the cars have “Made in U.S.A.

The primary variation of the No. 802 Cattle Cars is different shades of green for the body. There are also variations in the type and location of the rubber stamped number and other information.

1. No. 802 Cattle Car in dark green (1915-1916). The cars have “802” and “Lionel Lines / N.Y. / Made in U.S.A.” rubber stamped on one end. There is no stamping on the underside of the car.

Lionel No. 821 Cattle Cars

General Information

The Lionel No. 821 Cattle car was cataloged in 1915 and 1916, but not produced in those years. The Lionel No. 821 Cattle Cars were introduced in 1925 and were issued through 1926. The No. 802 Cattle Cars typically have tongue and slot couplers, but the last ones produced had latch couplers. The No. 821 Cattle Cars measure 7 1/4-inches in length. The cattle car bodies were all painted a single color and the frame was always black. The cars had sliding doors that opened and have a handle that was stamped into the right side of the door. The door guides were inside the car. The doors were all rubber stamped “Union Stock Lines”. The car number was rubber stamped on one end of the car and other information was rubber stamped on the underside of the car.

Variations of the No. 821 Cattle Cars include the size of the rubber stamped “821” on the end of the car, the couplers, and that some of the cars have maroon painted door handles.
