General Information
The Lionel No. 809 Dump Cars were introduced in 1930 and were issued through 1932 and then brought back in 1939. These cars were part of Lionel’s 4-wheel series of freight cars. The cars had no operating mechanism and had to be dumped manually. The No. 809 Dump Cars always had manual couplers.
The No. 809 Dump Cars measure 6 1/2-inches in length. The dump cars had either an orange or dark green bin and had a black frame. The cars were identified with the number rubber stamped on the outside of the bin.
Variations of the No. 809 Dump Cars include the color of the bin, brass or nickel brake wheels, nickel or copper journals, and the location of the brake wheel.

The cars have nickel trim and brake wheels, and nickel journals. The cars have latch couplers. This variation has the brake wheels located in the reverse position.
