Lionel No. 652 Gondola Cars
General Information
The Lionel No. 652 Gondola Cars were introduced in 1935 and were issued through 1942. The No. 652 Gondola Cars always had manual couplers. The No. 652 Gondola Cars measure 6 1/2-inches in length. The gondola car bodies were always painted a single color and had a black frame. Early gondola cars have metal plates to identify the number and “Lionel Lines”. Late gondola cars have rubber stamped lettering.
Variations of the No. 652 Gondola Cars include different body color; nickel or black trim; nickel or black journals; and metal identification plates in aluminum or rubber stamping. Early gondola cars have latch couplers. Later gondola cars have either early style manual box couplers or late style manual box couplers.
