Lionel No. 600 Passenger Cars

General Information

The Lionel No. 600 Pullman Passenger Cars were introduced in 1915 and were issued through 1925. The No. 600 passenger cars were the smallest of the early passenger cars issued by Lionel. There were no observation or baggage cars offered to match the No. 600 Pullman passenger cars. These passenger cars were included as components of many smaller low end or entry level passenger sets. The sets typically included two No. 600 passenger cars, but at least one late set included three Pullmans.

The No. 600 Passenger Cars measure 5 1/2-inches in length. All of the cars have four wheels with the axles connected directly to the frame of the car. The car frames are always black. The roofs were attached to the cars with a pressure fit. The cars all have “New York Central” rubber stamped in gold above the windows. The cars all have hook and slot couplers and the cars do not have journals. The cars are not illuminated.

Variations of the No. 600 Passenger Cars include changes to the body color and differences in the rubber-stamped number and data on the cars.

1. No. 600 Passenger Cars in dark green (1915). The cars have a gold painted ridge below the windows, “600” rubber stamped in gold on one end of the car, and “Lionel Lines / N.Y. / Made in U.S.A.” rubber stamped in gold on the underside of the car.
