Lionel No. 2956 Hopper Car
General Information
The Lionel No. 2956 Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Hopper Car was introduced in 1940 and was issued through 1942. The No. 2956 Hopper Cars were based on an actual B&O Hopper. The No. 2956 Hopper Cars measure 10 1/2-inches in length. The hopper cars were made of diecast metal with molded details for the ladders, hopper bays and ribbed sides. The hopper cars were all painted black. The cars had opening hatch covers that were hinged. The car number, “B&O 532000” “Baltimore and Ohio” and capacity data were heat stamped on the sides of the car in white. The cars have black journals. The hopper cars have late style operating box couplers. The coupler height and shank length varied.
