Lionel No. 1517 Cabooses
General Information
The Lionel / Ives No. 1517 Cabooses were introduced in 1931 and were issued through 1937. The No. 1517 Cabooses have a four-wheel frame and measure 6-inches in length. The caboose bodies were lithographed in red with a painted roof and a black or red frame. All of the cabooses were manufactured by Lionel. Cabooses offered in 1931-1932 were included in Ives Mechanical Sets. Cabooses offered in 1933 were included in Lionel-Ives Mechanical Sets. Cabooses offered in 1936-1937 were included in Lionel Mechanical Sets. The cabooses all have a single hook and slot coupler.
Variations of the No. 1517 Cabooses include different roof, cupola and frame colors. The earliest cabooses do not have “Lionel” on the sides.
