Lionel No. 609 & 611 Passenger Cars

General Information

The Lionel No. 609 Pullman and No. 611 Observation Passenger Cars were introduced in 1937 and were issued through 1942. Although not technically issued during the Classic Period, the No. 609 and No. 611 shared the same body as the No. 603, No. 604, No. 607, and No. 608 passenger cars. These passenger cars were never included as components of cateloged passenger sets. They were always included in uncataloged or “Special” sets.
The No. 609 and 611 Passenger Cars measure 7 1/2-inches in length. The sides of the cars have a single metal insert, painted a contrasting color, to create the doors, window inserts, and identification of the car number and type. The cars typically had frosted celluloid strips in the windows. The cars are illuminated. However, they do not have journals, air tanks or “fish bellies” to save cost.
There are no variations to the No. 609 and No. 611 Passenger Cars.
