GENERAL INFORMATION
These metal body cabooses are all prewar carryovers. Lionel was apparently not ready to introduce the plastic body SP style caboose at the end of the war. These cabooses, particularly those from 1945-46, are found with various earliest truck and coupler combinations. See the section on early postwar TRUCKS & COUPLERS HERE for complete details. Also, many prewar cabooses were likely converted to coil or magnetic couplers over the years.

believed to be a miss-stamped prewar body probably assembled with postwar trucks by Madison Hardware.

A photo of the underside is needed to show whether the tabs are broken, twisted, or untouched. Broken or twisted tabs (along with late trucks) indicate that the car is unlikely to be original. Although it doesn’t show very well, this car has whirley wheels.
