General Information
The Lionel No. 191 Villa was introduced in 1923 and was cataloged through 1932. It was also available as an uncataloged item and on Scenic Plots through 1942. The No. 191 Villa is also referred to as a “mansion” by collectors. The No. 191 Villa was constructed of steel with all enameled or lithographed components. The No. 191 Villa is two-story with attic and has a base, front porch, side wing (often referred to as “sun porch” or “train room” by collectors), roof with chimney, decorative railing on the top of the front porch and side wing and painted window and door inserts. The villas come with either two large dormers or no dormers on the roof. The No. 191 Villa is illuminated by a single bulb mounted on a bracket inside the house. The underside of the villa typically has either a decal or is rubber stamped with the Lionel identification and “No. 191 Villa” in black. Later villas and villas intended for use on scenic plots have unmarked bases. The No. 191 Villa is 7 1/8 x 5 x 5 1/4-inches high.
The No. 191 Villa was primarily sold separately. However, Lionel did issue a set of one No. 189 Villa, one No. 191 Villa and two No. 184 Bungalows as a No. 192 Illuminated Villa Set from 1923 through 1932.
The No. 191 Villa was available in a wide variety of painted and lithographed color combinations. In addition, villas came with either two large or no roof dormers, painted or lithographed sides and chimneys and brass, nickel or painted front porch and side wing railings.
