General Information
The Lionel No. 158 0-4-0 Electric Locomotive was introduced in 1919 and was issued through 1923. The No. 158 Electric Locomotive was based on the New York Central S electric locomotives. The No. 158 Electric Locomotive is very similar to the No. 150 Electric Locomotive. The only difference is that the No. 150 has an operating headlight. The No. 158 has two dummy headlights and was the lowest price “O” Gauge locomotive. The No. 158, along with the No. 150, was the smallest of the electric locomotives issued by Lionel as part of the 150 Series of electric locomotives. This locomotive was included as a component of three small, low end, early prewar passenger and freight sets.
The No. 158 Electric Locomotive measures 5-inches in length. The locomotives have two dummy headlights, decorative bell, spoked wheels, and hook and slot couplers. The No. 158 locomotive had no manual reverse and ran in one direction only. The “158” and “New York Central” herald were rubber stamped in gold on the sides of the locomotive cab. These stampings were weak and are often partially or completely missing from handling and wear. All of the locomotives have red window trim.
Variations of the No. 158 Electric Locomotives consist primarily of changes to the body color.
