General Information
The Lionel No. 154 0-4-0 Electric Locomotive was introduced in 1917 and was issued through 1923. The No. 154 Electric Locomotive was based on the New York Central S electric locomotives. The No. 154 was a medium sized electric locomotive in the 150 Series of electric locomotives. This locomotive was included as a component of many mid-sized early prewar passenger and freight sets.
The No. 154 Electric Locomotive measures 8 3/4-inches in length. The locomotives have a single headlight, decorative bell, spoke wheels, Y-shape stanchions with wire handrails, and hook and slot couplers. The No. 154 locomotive had a manual reverse controlled by a reverse lever located on the left side of the locomotive between the body and frame. The “154” and “New York Central” herald were rubber stamped in gold on the sides of the locomotive cab. These stampings were weak and are often partially or completely missing from handling and wear.
Most of the No. 154 Electric Locomotives were painted dark green. A few of the last locomotives were painted light olive. The earliest locomotives had a pedestal headlight and “Lionel Manufacturing” pickup label. Later locomotives had a strap headlight and a “Lionel Corporation” pickup label. All of the locomotives have red window trtim.
