General Information
The Lionel No. 152 0-4-0 Electric Locomotive was introduced in 1917 and was issued through 1927. The No. 152 Electric Locomotive was based on the New York Central S electric locomotives. The No. 152 was a small electric locomotive, just slightly larger than the No. 150 and No. 158 electric locomotives in the 150 Series of electric locomotives. This locomotive was included as a component of many small, early prewar passenger and freight sets.
The No. 152 Electric Locomotive measures 5 3/4-inches in length. The locomotives have a single headlight, decorative bell, spoked wheels, and hook and slot couplers. The No. 152 locomotive had no manual reverse and ran in one direction only. The “152” and “New York Central” herald were rubber stamped in gold on the sides of the locomotive cab. These stampings were weak and are often partially or completely missing from handling and wear. All of the locomotives have red window trim.
Variations of the No. 152 Electric Locomotives consist primarily of changes to the body color. The earliest locomotives had a pedestal headlight, Y-shape stanchions with wire handrails, and a “Lionel Manufacturing” pickup label. Later locomotives all had strap headlights, stamped or embossed handrails, and a “Lionel Corporation” pickup label.
