General Information
The Lionel No. 792 Streamlined Combine, No. 793 Streamlined Coach and No. 794 Streamlined Observation were introduced in 1937 and were issued through 1941. The Nos. 792 793, and 794 Streamlined Passenger Cars were included in one high-end Lionel set. The Nos. 792, 793, and 794 Streamlined Passenger Cars were always paired with Lionel’s No. 700E / 700T/W Scale Hudson Steam Locomotive which comprised Lionel’s Rail Chief Set. The set was always issued as a four car set with two No. 793 Streamlined Coaches one each of the Nos. 792 and 794 Streamlined Passenger Cars. These sets were scale proportioned.
The Nos. 792, 793 and 794 Streamlined Passenger Cars vary in length. The No. 792 Streamlined Combine measures 15 1/2-inches in length. The No. 793 Streamlined Coach measures 13 1/2-inches in length and the No. 794 Streamlined Observation measures 15 1/2-inches in length. The interconnecting vestibules are not included in the measurements. The No. 792 Streamlined Combine has a scale coupler to match up with the scale coupler on the No. 700T/W Tender. The car numbers are rubber stamped on the sides of the cars. The cars are articulated and are connected by a vestibule mounted on a single truck. The vestibules also contain the light that illuminates the cars. The vestibules use a spring-loaded pin that connects the car bodies. In the photos below, the passenger cars are pictured with one or two vestibules attached to the ends of each car.
There are no variations of the Nos. 792, 793 and No. 794 Streamlined Passenger Cars. The color of the interconnecting vestibules match the colors of the cars in the set. The vestibules all came with slider pick-ups for the lights.
