General Information

The Lionel No. 782 Streamlined Combine, No. 783 Streamlined Coach and No. 784 Streamlined Observation were introduced in 1935 and were issued through 1941. The Nos. 782 783, and 784 Streamlined Passenger Cars were included in one high-end Lionel set. The Nos. 782, 783, and 784 Streamlined Passenger Cars were always paired with matching Lionel No. 250E / 250W Steam Locomotive and the cars were always issued as part of Lionel’s Milwaukee Road “Hiawatha” set. The set was issued as a three car set with one each of the Nos. 782, 783, and 784 Streamlined Passenger Cars. These sets were scale proportioned.

The Nos. 782, 783 and 784 Streamlined Passenger Cars vary in length. The No. 782 Streamlined Combine measures 15 1/2-inches in length. The No. 783 Streamlined Coach measures 13 1/2-inches in length and the No. 784 Streamlined Observation measures 15 1/2-inches in length. The interconnecting vestibules are not included in the measurements. The car numbers are rubber stamped on the sides of the cars. The cars are articulated and are connected by a vestibule mounted on a single truck. The vestibules also contain the light that illuminates the cars. The vestibules use a spring-loaded pin that connects the car bodies. In the photos below, the passenger cars are pictured with one or two vestibules attached to the ends of each car.

There are no variations of the Nos. 782, 783 and No. 784 Streamlined Passenger Cars. The color of the interconnecting vestibules match the colors of the cars in the set. The vestibules all came with slider pick-ups for the lights.
