Lionel No. 1817, 1818 Streamlined Passenger Cars

General Information

The Lionel No. 1817 Streamlined Coach and No. 1818 Streamlined Observation Passenger Cars were introduced in 1935 and were issued through 1937. The Nos. 1817 and 1818 Streamlined Passenger Cars were included in two Lionel mechanical sets. The cars were paired with the Lionel No. 1816 Mechanical Streamlined Locomotive (Power Car). There are two versions of the No. 1816 Streamlined Power Car. One version of the Power Car has a battery operated headlight. The other version has an operating whistle. The cars in both sets are identical.

The No. 1817 Streamlined Coach measures 9-inches in length (including the vestibule) and the No. 1818 Streamlined Observation measures 10 1/2-inches in length (including the vestibule). The cars are not numbered and all have a “Lionel Lines” plate on the sides. The Nos. 1817 and 1818 Streamlined Passenger Cars are not articulated as the cars each have two complete trucks. However, the cars have connecting vestibules to give the train a streamlined appearance. The cars are not illuminated. The cars do not have journals.

There are no variations of the Nos. 1817 and No. 1818 Streamlined Passenger Cars. The sides of the cars all have fluted stampings.
