General Information

The Lionel No. 603 Pullman and No. 604 Observation Passenger Cars were introduced in 1920 and were issued through 1925. The Nos. 603 and 604 were mid-sized passenger cars. These passenger cars were included as components of many early mid-level passenger sets. The sets typically included two No. 603 Pullman cars and a No. 604 observation, but a few smaller sets only included one of each of the cars.

The Nos. 603 and 604 Passenger Cars measure 7-inches in length. All of the cars have celluloid window inserts with white shades in the upper portion of the windows. The cars do not have journals. The observation platform of the No. 604 Observation was painted gold.

Variations of the Nos. 603, 604 Passenger Cars include differences in the color of the body, the color of the window frames and doors, and rubber-stamped data on the underside of the cars. Early versions of the cars had hook and slot couplers and later versions had combination latch or latch couplers. Early versions of the cars were not illuminated.
